How Do You Plan to Honor Our Heroes?

May 28 2010

Published by under Events,Miscellaneous

This weekend is about celebrating the men and women who serve our country in uniform. With all of the events taking place around the country, we’d like to hear how YOU are celebrating the holiday.

Taking the kids to an air show? Or going to a local war memorial to pay respects to those who have fallen in combat?

Not able to get out this weekend? There are movies and specials, concerts and tv programs dedicated to the honor military servicemembers, too!

Plenty of ways to celebrate the sacrifices made every day in our name- what do you plan to do?

Sweet Military Discount on Chevys

May 27 2010

Published by under Discounts & Offers

We’ve highlighted the best parts below, but you can read the full release online, too…if you’re into that sort of thing. (Though truthfully there’s some good info AND a chart in there. And we know how you guys love charts!)

Chevrolet and USAA, a financial services provider for the military community, provided more than 21,000 discounts, for a total value of $24 million, to help U.S. troops and their families purchase a new Chevrolet in 2009. The result contributes to the industry’s best military discount program: the USAA and General Motors joint discount program offers the largest selection of vehicles and family-member eligibility of any car company…

Except for the $106,880 Corvette ZR1, every 2010 Chevrolet vehicle is eligible for both a GM Military Discount and an additional discount for USAA members. In most cases, the military affiliation discount can be combined with incentives available to the general public.

The GM Military Discount is offered to all active and Reserve members – and their spouses – of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, National Guard and Coast Guard. Discounts typically range between $500 and $4,000 off MSRP, the suggested retail price of the vehicle purchased. In 2009, Chevrolet supported more than 5,000 customers through the GM Military Discount program, for a cumulative value of more than $12 million…

Military personnel can go to gmmilitarydiscount.com for more information, to apply for a discount code and to find the military price for the vehicle of their choice. More information about USAA’s GM discount and comprehensive auto buying services is available at http://tiny.cc/khujd.

May 25 2010

Published by under Health & Living

Department of Veterans Affairs
Veterans Health Administration
Office of the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary
for Health for Policy and Planning Announces its:

VAannouncement

The VHA’s Office of the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary for Health (ADUSH) for Policy and Planning is conducting the 2010 update of our national VHA telephone Survey of Enrollees. The purpose of the survey is to provide information that is incorporated into annual VHA projections of enrollment, utilization, and expenditures, as well as into a variety of high level VHA budget and policy related analyses.

The survey provides critical and essential information on Veteran utilization of health services, projecting the resources and services needed in VHA, and in developing our budget. The survey collects information on a random sample of 42,000 Veterans enrolled in the VA system, who participate in an approximately 15-30 minute telephone survey.

Each Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) will have approximately 2,000 enrollees surveyed. The survey will be fully initiated the week of May 24, 2010. Interviewing will continue for 12 weeks.

Veteran enrollees selected for the survey will receive a letter that provides information about the survey and the contractor conducting the survey on behalf of the VA.

Your support in this survey will help ensure that we provide the best care possible, where it is needed, when it is needed, and by whom it is needed.

Previous survey reports are available at:

National WWII Museum Kicks Off Week of Commemoration

May 24 2010

Published by under Events

Beginning with Memorial Day on May 31, a series of major events, ceremonies, special exhibits and lectures will be taking place at The National World War II Museum in New Orleans. The commemorative period will culminate with a weekend of special events June 5-6 to honor the 66th anniversary of the D-Day invasion at Normandy and to celebrate the Museum’s 10th anniversary.

The highlight of the weekend will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 5: A Gathering of the Greatest Generation, a special “roll-call” ceremony when veterans from each of the 50 states will stand together to be honored by the Museum and as a tribute to those who are no longer with us. The commemoration also will serve as a poignant reminder of how few of these eyewitnesses to history are still with us as a representative from each state will recite the number of veterans who served from their state and how many remain today.

Family members of deceased veterans can also attend in their honor. Registration is online at www.nationalww2museum.org.

Thomas Blakey, a volunteer at the Museum who parachuted into Normandy with the 101st Airborne on D-Day is just one of the veterans who will be in attendance. “It’s important to me that future generations know and understand what we went through in the war. Events like this are an opportunity for us to share our stories with people of all ages.”

Visitors can also experience the recently opened Solomon Victory Theater, featuring Beyond All Boundaries, a 4-D cinematic experience executive produced by Tom Hanks; the Stage Door Canteen, a recreation of a wartime entertainment venue; and the American Sector – a Chef John Besh restaurant. The 66th Anniversary weekend is sponsored by Chevron. For a complete schedule of the weekend’s events, visit www.nationalww2museum.org.
