Back on the Career Track

Published by MOAA Spouse at 2:53 pm under Career, Support Services & Resources

At our Military Spouse Symposium last month, the spouses who opted into the Military Spouse Employment breakout session benefited from the expertise of an amazing panel of speakers.

While you’re probably familiar with many topics that were addressed such as networking, resumes and identifying military spouse friendly employers, you may be less aware of the Relaunch Revolution that’s going on.  The majority of us who work are taking time off for various reasons (kids, challenging duty stations, short assignments etc…), so military spouses are no strangers to re-launching.  Many of us have had to start over again after a period of time away from our careers.  So what’s new?

What’s new is that society at large is catching up to our way of life.  More and more women are stepping off the corporate ladder to stay at home and raise their children.  Whether they are home for 18 months or 12 years, they face the same issues when they consider coming back to the workforce, the same doubts and concerns.  They wonder if anyone will still be willing to hire them.  Do they still have what it takes? How can they find opportunities that satisfy their need for a career while still fulfilling their family obligations?  Sounds familiar, huh?

If you haven’t yet read, Back on the Career Track: A Guide for Stay-at-Home Moms Who Want to Return to Work by Carol Cohen and Vivian Rabin, I highly recommend that you check it out.

If you’re a military spouse who has a great re-launch story, please share it with us.
