Did you know there are about 42,000 military dependents in the Georgia school system? Unfortunately, Georgia hasn’t signed on to the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunities for Military Children. What does this mean for those 42,000 military kids?

It means when those kids transfer from Georgia on a PCS move, other states have no obligation to accommodate easing the transition. It also means Georgia has no way of enforcing the Compact when a child transfers to Georgia from a Compact state.

MOAA has a vibrant Chapters system that works with state legislators on the Interstate Compact, but Military Families, we need your help as well.

Here’s how you can help: contact your Georgia state legislator and urge them to sponsor legislation for the Interstate Compact today.
