Church air purifiers have to effectively remove various air pollution and clean air in large and crowded spaces. Not many air cleaning systems can do that for a fair price.

I consider the following air purifiers to be the best when it comes to air filtration in any church:

Tracs TM950 is a classical US-made ceiling-mounted HEPA & UV air purifier that effectively removes all kinds of air pollution (including heavy smoke and germs) at 99.97% efficiency. It is possible with its hospital grade HEPA filter and UV-C bulbs. In addition, this air purifier features an anti-bacterial MERV 10 pre-filter.

The TM950 is installed onto an exposed HVAC return ductwork, as a standalone air scrubber, or to a 2′ x 4′ drop ceiling. The control box is wall-mounted, it features speed controls, a UV on/off switch and LED indicators for each UVC lamp.

Tracs company is a popular choice for many hospitals, schools, churches, offices and laboratories. Their air purifiers are often used to keep the air clean in the whole house.

Coway Airmega 300s is another popular HEPA air purifier with a powerful dual-stage filtration system that removes harmful particulate matter from the air in large spaces, including residential and commercial areas. Contrary to the previously mentioned Tracs, this one is a portable air purifier and also features Auto mode and WiFi connector. So, instead of manually adjusting the speed you can make the air purifier do it, or simply use your Android or iOS smartphone to remotely control the speed and monitor air quality.

The Airmega 300s is way less powerful compared to the Tracs TM950, meaning, you either have to buy more units to cover the whole area. Coway is a long-standing Korean company, meaning you won’t face problems with filter replacements or customer support.

Medify Air MA-125 uses a H14 HEPA air filter to remove even smaller particles from the air, keeping it clean and breathable. Optional UV light also effectively sanitizes the air from viruses and bacteria.

Medify is a relatively new company, but their products in the air quality niche have already made names for themselves. Relatively low price, great air filtration, good support – you can expect all that from any Medify air purifier.

FAQs

How many air purifiers do I need for my church?

The area coverage that you see in the table above is calculated based on 2 air changes per hour (ACH) in a space with 8 feet ceiling. This is an average number of air circulations that is also recommended by ASHRAE for churches to keep the space clean and breathable.

You can calculate how many air purifiers you need using this ACH calculator. You’ll only need CADR rating (airflow) measured in CFM, length and width of your church, and, obviously, ceiling height.

For example, in a church with 8 ft. ceiling and an area of 7,000 square feet, you need to install two Tracs TM950 air purifiers or six Coway Airmega 300s air cleaners.

Do air purifiers help with Covid-19?

Air purifiers with UV-C lights (Tracs, Medify) are more effective at removing viruses and germs compared to the air cleaners that utilize just HEPA air filters, like the Coway Airmega 300s. Ultra germicidal irradiation is a proven technology that is used to stop viruses and bacteria spread in any space, whether it’s a dental office, church or restaurant. The lamps used by these air purifiers do not release ozone, so they won’t harm your visitors in any way.
