Pet fur is similar to hair, but it’s denser and shorter while hair is smother and finer. More hair follicles mean your dog that sheds hair will also shed fur (this is especially true for double-coated dogs), so you end up with even more hassle to clean after your pet.
However, there is a solution! Pet air purifiers are the best solution to clean the room from fur. I have selected the best HEPA air purifiers that use high quality filters to catch these shedding things. Moreover, such air cleaners can also get rid of pet dander in case your concern is allergies as well.
Enough talking, let’s see what I’ve got for you!

Winix HR900 PlasmaWave true HEPA portable air purifier is considered by many the best option if you want to keep your room cleaner from your pet’s fur. It’s simply due to the fact that it uses a 5-stage air cleaning system that employs:
- Pet pre-filter for hair, fur, dander;
- Washable fine mesh pre-filter for fur, hair and large particles;
- Washable Carbon filter for pet odors, kitchen grease or bathroom smells, cigarette smoke;
- True HEPA filter for particles as small as 0.003 micron. These include bacteria, viruses, dust, smoke;
- PlasmaWave ionizer helps filters to catch airborne pollutants and freshens the air afterward.
Overall, this system effectively reduces the number of dangerous particles floating in the air inside your home and keeps the whole area cleaner from pet fur, hair and dander.
The Winix HR900 is relatively quiet (produces 27 decibels at the lowest speed – can be used at night in your bedroom), provides 5 air changes per hour (ACH) in a 300 square feet room (AHAM-Verified) and doesn’t require your assistance – just plug in the unit and select “Auto” to let it run automatically. The sensor is good, detects air pollution (fur, hair, dust particles, germs) quickly and automatically adjusts the speed whenever necessary.
Overall, this is the best pet fur air purifier that is available on the US market today. This Winix-made air cleaner is affordable, reliable and employs quality long-lasting filters so you won’t overspend on replacements.

Alen BreatheSmart 75i is another popular unit, but this one is made for large rooms (delivers 2 ACH in 1300 square feet room) and big homes in general as it generates way higher airflow and has a higher CADR rating overall compared to the Winix HR900. It doesn’t have a pre-filter, but its HEPA and Carbon filters are larger and generally better at capturing pet fur, odors, germs and viruses. In addition, an in-built ionizer also makes air fresher.
The unit is packed with smart features, including Auto and Sleep modes, a timer, and a filter replacement indicator. It can be run 24/7 without any maintenance for months before you’ll have to change the filter (the 75i uses a combined HEPA + Carbon filter). The replacements aren’t cheap, but the filter lasts up to one year – depending on usage.
Overall, the BreatheSmart 75i is a powerful Alen-designed air purifier if you want to get rid of fur from your house, or at least reduce it number to a bare minimum. If you have an allergy, this air cleaner is a must as it will relieve you from your allergy symptoms and make your life a little brighter.

Medify Air MA-40 is another air purifier that I recommend if you want to reduce the amount of fur that comes from your home animals. People are praising the MA-40 for its ability to help them with allergies and rightfully so. Apart from great air cleaning capabilities, this device is affordable and very easy in use and maintenance. The only real downside everyone has with it is the short life of its 3-in-1 filter (combines the pre-filter, HEPA and Carbon) as it is limited to 4 months only. Plus it’s not the most energy efficient and isn’t quiet compared to the Alen Breathesmart.
But if you value efficiency, reliability and affordable price the most, then the MA-40 is the best option (and the truth is, most Medify air purifiers are affordable and good). It will make your room free of pet fur!

Blueair Blue Pure 411 is a budget air purifier by Blueair to help you get rid of fur in small room. It doesn’t have any additional features and uses only filters to capture airborne pollution. The CADR rating is low compared to the previously reviewed air purifiers, so don’t use it in bigger rooms or you will be disappointed. However, for small spaces (like a bedroom) it will do a decent job of catching pet fur and improving the air quality.
FAQ
Does an air purifier remove pet fur?
Yes, the air purifiers listed on this page do the job. The Winix HR900 in particular, was designed for pet owners that want to reduce the amount of fur and hair found in their homes.
Are ionizers safe for me and my pets?
Ionizers are considered safe as they produce a tiny amount of ozone that is safe for people and their pets. It also helps to catch harmful particles and reduces odors. In any case, you can turn off a built-in ionizer, and the Blue Pure 411 doesn’t have one at all. Don’t confuse air purifiers with ozone generators.
