Airdog X5 is the medium-sized air purifier, designed for rooms 400 – 500 square feet in size. It is made in China but designed by the Airdog company (registered as Silicon Valley Air Expert Inc. in 2007). What makes the Airdog X5 different from other air purifiers is the TPA air cleaning technology that doesn’t require filters to be changed every 3 to 12 months.

Features

The Airdog X5 air purifier has the latest most innovative technology to ensure that the indoor air within your home is clean and fresh. It has many amazing features that make the product one of the best in the market.

Firstly the Airdog X5 has a comprehensive multi-layer filtration process to remove all sorts of harmful particles from the air. It uses an ionized filtration system instead of the common HEPA filters used in most air purifiers. This kills extremely small viruses and bacteria as well. At first, the air passes through a pre-filter, that traps large particles and dust from the air. Secondly, the ionizer removes even the smallest of harmful air particles. Thirdly, the air passes through a collecting plate which collects the harmful particles within it and can be rewashed once it gets too dirty. Lastly, the air passes through an activated carbon filter which removes odors and smoke. At this stage, the purifier also removes ozone emissions. The Airdog X5 is capable of cleaning a 300 square foot room in 20 minutes.

A removable filter is an extremely useful and unique feature of the Airdog X5. The company not only uses state-of-the-art technology but also ensures that it is environmentally friendly. It has a washable filter with fast-drying collection plates. This will not only save you the cost of buying new filters regularly as is the case with most air purifiers but is also good for the environment.

The built and design of the Airdog X5 is also highly durable and perceptive. It has several safety features so that you can use it without worry or concern. The air purifier is made from V-0 fireproof material. It also has a child lock system so that children do not change the settings.

The Airdog X5 has a screen and indicator light that displays the air quality of the room at all times. It also has 6 operating modes and four differing fan speed options. This allows the multiple operating modes each fit for a particular time and occasion.

Due to the ionization filtration system, the Airdog X5 has an extremely low sound when operating. The noise level of the device is below <63 dB(A) which makes it practically inaudible.

The Air purifier comes with a remote-control option. It can be used to turn the device on and off, set it to child lock, sleep mode, and adjust the filtration setting. The remote control makes using the Airdog X5 much easier.

The Airdog X5 uses smart technology and is extremely intuitive. It can analyze the level of pollution and harmful particles in the air and automatically adjust the filtration mode accordingly.

The Airdog X5 is Wi-Fi enabled. The air purifier connects to the Wi-Fi so that it can be controlled easily through your phone. This option also allows you to see the air quality of the room from anywhere.

My Airdog X5  Review

Having severe dust allergies, I was pretty excited to use the Airdog X5. I placed the purifier in my living room as that is the one room in the house that is used the most.  The process of setting up the Airdog X5 and connecting it to the Wi-Fi was quite simple and straightforward. The Airdog X5 informs you of the air quality in your room which in my case was pretty bad. After only a short time the AQI rating improved remarkably, and I could feel a significant decrease in my allergies. When I turned the purifier on the air quality was 95 but in 5 hours it came down to 10. I kept the air purifier running for almost 10 hours straight and was surprised by how little power is consumed and how clean my air quality had become. I could feel like I was able to breathe better! I have used the Honeywell Air purifier in the past and compared to that it cleaned the air better and much quicker. The ionizer technology that the Airdog X5 electrically charges the air molecules. It creates negative ions that attach themselves to the positively charged particles in the room such as dust, pollen, smoke, and other harmful microbes. The process effectively removes all the small harmful particles from the air.

A feature of the Airdog X5 that I was particularly keen on reviewing is the production of ozone. The Airdog X5 produces ozone which is an irritant of the lung and can make certain diseases such as allergies and asthma much worse. Although the amount of ozone produced is 0.01 parts per million over a 24-hour period I still wanted to give it a try and see how much that would affect me. I am happy to report that the effect was so minute as to be almost unnoticeable and nothing about the Airdog aggravated my allergies. I was also keen on using the Wi-Fi features and the Airdog App for controlling the purifier. I felt that the app development could have been a little better and my purifier disconnected on a few occasions but overall, the feature was easy to use and accurately depicted the air quality from anywhere. I was also able to easily change the mode or speed of the purifier through the app.

One issue that I experienced was the smell of the purifier. It does give off a noticeable odor, so I had to move the purifier to the corner of the room. But the smell is not something a scented candle can’t fix. Secondly, the Airdog X5 is a little heavy for my liking. Although I was able to lift it and move it around from one room to another the task did end up feeling like a whole workout. Overall, the air purifier was easy to use and worked pretty well.

Suitable Room Size for Airdog X5 Air Purifier

Airdog X5 air purifier can effectively cover spaces up to 450 square feet. But you can use it in larger rooms if you don’t have any breathing conditions (asthma, allergies etc.).

Room size How long it takes to clean room ACH
350 sq. ft. 13 minutes 4.7
450 sq. ft. 16 minutes 3.7
700 sq. ft. 25 minutes 2.4
1000 sq. ft. 35 minutes 1.7

Under normal conditions 2-3 air changes per hour is enough for bedrooms and living spaces. If you have allergies or asthma, you should look for air purifiers with 4 air changes per minute or better. Minimum 8 ACH is recommended in a heavily smoked room.

If you want to calculate air changes per hour for your room using Airdog X5 for air purification and get a closer look what are the general recommendations, go to the ACH calculator & recommendations page.

The Airdog X8 is the Airdog X5’s successor. Since both purifiers are of the same company they have a lot of similarities. For example, both use TPA technology to kill harmful viruses and bacteria present in the air. This technology can remove up to 0.0146 microns from the air. Both purifiers use additional ionization technology for filtration ensuring clean and fresh air. Both purifiers have washable and reusable filters which are ideal for the environment and can help cut costs. Lastly, both are extremely quiet and do not make any noise when operating.

However, the Airdog X8 does have a few differences. It is much more faster and powerful than its predecessor. The Airdog X8 can clean 1000 sq. ft. in just 17 minutes which is much quicker. The X8 is also larger in size and a little heavier than the X5. In terms of cost, the X8 costs 1199$ which is way more than the X5. Overall both are good air purifiers, but if you’re considering buying one for your home the X5 has almost all the same features as the X8 and gets the job done.

Airdog X5 vs Molekule Air Purifier

Model Airdog X5 Molekule Air (Review)

Both the Airdog X5 and Molekule use different technology to clean out the air in a room. While the Airdog X5 uses a multi-stage air filtration to clean the air the Molekule uses Photo Electrochemical Oxidation (PECO) nanotechnology. This technology not only traps the pollutants but completely destroys them in the atmosphere. It can clean pollutants that are 1000 times smaller than the HEPA filter is capable of trapping.

Secondly, while the Airdog X5 is responsible for releasing a small amount of ozone into the air, the Molekule air purifier ensures that there is no ozone so that people with allergies or asthma do not have to be concerned. Compared to the Airdog Molekule also has a cleaner and more sleek design and is more suitable for larger rooms. It can clean rooms up to 600 sq ft.

Unlike the Airdog however, the Molekule does not have a reusable filter. The pre-filter in the purifier needs replacement every 3 months which not only adds to the cost of maintaining the filter but is also harmful to the environment. Lastly, the Molekule Air is cheaper than the Airdog X5, but the price raises up with the filter replacements.

The Nuwave Oxypure is a great choice when it comes to buying air purifiers. However, the filtration technology the Airdog X5 and Nuwave Oxypure embrace are widely different. The Airdog X5 uses a multi-layered ionization technology with TPA filter while the Nuwave Oxypure uses an advanced 5 filter system instead.

These filters include a reusable, stainless-steel Pre-Filter, an Ozone Emission Removal Filter, a combination Activated Carbon/HEPA/ Filter, and a Bio-Guard Filter. These filters have a lifespan of many years. While the X5 uses a slightly more advanced technology than the Nuwave Oxypure, it still removes all smoke, dust, pollen, mold, pet dander, and allergens from the air. However, while the X5 can remove up to 0.0146 microns from the air the Nuwave Oxypure is only capable of removing 0.09 microns from the air.

Additionally, both the Airdog X5 and the Nuwave Oxypure have WiFi capabilities. You can easily connect them to the home Wi-Fi for easy use and monitoring. The Nuwave Oxypure also has a reusable, washable filter like the X5 so it is also environmentally friendly. In terms of price, both the Airdog X5 and Nuwave Oxypure cost the same. If you’re choosing between these two products the Airdog X5 is more superior. It has more advanced filtration technology for the same price.

Airdog X5 Manual/How to Use/Maintenance

The Airdog X5 is pretty simple to use. On top of it, there is a power button we can use to turn it on and off. Next to the power buttons are a few other buttons that access quick features such as the Wi-Fi, small indicator lights for Auto mode, Child Lock, Sleep mode, and fan speed. The display at the front shows the current air quality index rating. This rating is assessed from the number of microscopic particles in the air. The AQI starts from 0 and goes to a maximum of 500. The AQI is also determined by different colored lights. The green light indicates that the air quality is good, a lighter green light means the air quality is moderately well, yellow means it is polluted and red means the air quality is hazardous.

The Airdog X5 is pretty perceptive and can sense the level of pollutants in the air and automatically adjust modes and levels of filtration.  To connect the Airdog X5 to the Wi-Fi users must first download the Airdog app and set up an account. Once this step is complete you can enter your Wi-Fi into the app and use the Wi-Fi button on the remote to configure your phone to the air purifier.

The air purifier comes with a cleaning brush for the maintenance of the removable filter. It is recommended by the company to clean the purifier every 6 months to a year. However, a “C” will appear on the display when it’s time for the plates to be cleaned.  The cleaning process is quite straightforward. The first step is to unplug the machine and take out the metal collecting plates, rubber sleeve, and ionization filter. The cleaning brush can be used to remove dirt, while the collecting plates can even be washed. A great thing about collecting plates is that they are dishwasher safe so you can even pop them into the dishwasher. However, it is extremely important to ensure that all the parts are completely dry before inserting them back in.
